Summary: The present work aims to analyze the manifestation of cooperation in the work of operating groups employees of a large mining company headquartered in the state of Espírito Santo. The Sigma Miner, name used in all this work as confidentiality agreement firmed, has the competency management model implemented since 2006, which utilizes aspects such as the "delivery" of the employee for the company and people development. This model divides the employees in six sigma organizational groups. The focus of this work is the operating group. Each group has its competencies expected, and "Teamwork" and "Result-oriented" skills common to all organizational groups. This qualitative research is divided in two steps. The first one includes the analyzes from interviews with 24 employees of operating group in the years 2008 and 2009, which was a strong cooperative relationship between workers, imbued with the competence "teamwork". The second one deals with the results obtained by means of new interviews with 12 of the 24 employees interviewed in 2008 and 2009. We used the content analysis of data analysis, which identified that support between employees of the operating group occurs rather naturally and that cooperation is strengthened by the interpersonal relationships between these employees and the company's guidance translated into competence 'teamwork " and the introduction of new cultural aspects since 2006. Cooperative action at work is motivated by personal aspects and the need for continuity of work activity performed. In other words, the purpose of this cooperative action is the same for both employees: the fluidity of the production process.
