A. Is the program tuition-free?
At UFES, Master’s and Doctorate programs are tuition-free since they are financed by the Brazilian federal government. Some Postgraduate programs charge an admission fee.
B. Will I study full time?
Students must be available to attend classes, develop activities in the lab, attend seminars, supervisory meetings and prepare their dissertation or thesis. They are encouraged to study full-time though it is not mandatory. However, full-time students have priority over research grants.
C. What time are the lectures?
Classes are scheduled in 4-hour slots, between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., from Monday to Friday. Class schedule depends on a number of factors such as faculty availability, number of enrollments, and others that result in only one semi-annual course planning.
D. Are there research grants for researchers?
Yes. All Postgraduate Programs (Masters and PhD) receive a quota of assistantships from agencies funding postgraduate education and research. The number of grants will depend on the funding agencies and is set annually. The Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES), the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do ES (FAPES) are the leading agencies offering grants to students.
Therefore, each program will establish internal distribution criteria that students should meet to be eligible for an assistantship/grant.
E. Do you offer summer and/or weekend courses?
The Postgraduate Program in Management does not offer summer or weekend courses.
F. Should I talk to a prospective supervisor in advance?
Not necessarily. Postgraduate programs can autonomously establish their own criteria for admission. Therefore, upon the publication of the call for admission, further information will be provided.
G. How can I get further information about the postgraduate program?
In Brazil, CAPES is the agency responsible for managing the academic graduate programs. On CAPES website (www.capes.gov.br) you may find relevant available information. To learn more about a specific program at UFES, access prppg.ufes.br.
