Summary: The objective of this research is to investigate the relationship between the constructs Maturity of Quality Management Systems and Organizational Performance, aiming to precise the strength and direction of this relationship. Thus, the concept of maturity has been defined in three different perspectives (related to the age, capability, and evolution) and organizational performance has been studied in both the approaches: cost and not cost and it was assessed by suppliers and by their clients, as well. This comprehensive measurement of maturity and performance allowed the elimination of the limitations observed in previous studies that evaluated only the impact of certification of quality management system and emphasized only the performance stated by the supplier. It was studied companies operating in Brazil, in different sectors and sizes, totalizing 179 evaluations of maturity and 402 performance evaluations. The collected data were analyzed statistically, through descriptive and multivariate analysis techniques. For measurement and analysis of relations among constructs, was used parameter estimative by structural equations modeling performed through PLS - Partial Least Squares. As results, the survey identified statistically significant relationships and consistency with the theoretical basis, pointing further important recommendations to the evolution of the researched topic, as well as providing an innovative alternative to assess the relationship between quality management and performance in Brazil.
