Summary: This research aims to investigate the mediating effect of strategic purchasing integration (IEC), volume flexibility (FV), and delivery flexibility (FE), in the relationship between information sharing and the operational performance (DO) of the firm. In relation to previous studies, this research differs in three aspects: first, it tests the direct effect of information sharing on operational performance, second, it appropriates the theoretical contribution of Baihaqi and Soha (2013) that the sharing of information is not in itself sufficient to improve the performance of the firm, and proposes that this relationship is mediated by the constructs IEC, FV and FE, third, investigates the wholesale dyad retail, highlighting that previous studies have concentrated their
research on the dyad retail industry. To achieve the proposed objectives, a systematic review of the literature was made, with emphasis on theories convergent to research such as the Theory of Production Competence (TCP) suitable for purchase, Resource-Based Vision Theory (RBV), Resource Orchestration Theory (TOR) and Information Processing Theory (OIPT). The data used in this research were collected by an electronic questionnaire, answered by managers of 166 wholesale companies, located in the Regions, South, North, Southeast, and Northeast of Brazil. For data validation and tests of the proposed hypotheses, structural equation modeling (SEM) was used
and the mediation effect test was performed, as proposed by Baron and Kenny (1986). The results found to support the established hypotheses of the positive effect of information sharing on the operational performance of the firm, as well as the hypotheses of the positive effect of IC on the relationship with constructs IEC, FV and EF. Regarding the hypotheses of the mediating effect, the results confirm that the relationship between CI and DO improves, when mediated by IEC and EF, while the mediating effect of volume flexibility (VF) was not statistically significant, therefore, it was rejected. Finally, this research presents the theoretical and practical contributions derived from the results achieved.
