Summary: research aims to verify the dynamics of the resilience of the supply chain, starting from the clients' perspective, seeking to elucidate the effective mechanisms and practices used (intentionally or not) to increase the resilience of its critical partners and suppliers, consequently, this study also proposes to evaluate the impact of these mechanisms throughout its supply chain. In this context, organizational resilience has been conceptualized as a function of awareness of an organization's situation, identification and management of key vulnerabilities and adaptive capacity in a complex, dynamic and interconnected environment. The present work can be classified as a theoretical-empirical research of descriptive / explanatory nature, as it seeks to examine the mechanisms and practices of the buyers that can increase the resilience degree of their critical suppliers. The study was conducted in an intentionally selected group of focal companies operating in the supply chain of the automotive industry. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with the buyers and sellers of the selected companies (key informants). In order to codify the information obtained by direct observation and the use of the interview script, we chose to classify the data by the use of content analysis in three categories, pre-selected according to the theoretical framework of Relative Overall Resilience (ROR), consisting of three factors (situational awareness, key vulnerability management, and adaptive capacity). In order to evaluate the mechanisms used, elements of the Prospect Theory and Resource Dependence Theory were used in relation to the initial selection, maintenance and evaluation of critical suppliers. The results show to the existence of a bundle of resilience that permeates the relationship of customers and suppliers, formed by a set of 11 formal mechanisms and informal practices that reach the entire supply chain. These mechanisms and practices are passed in the chain in an expositive or impositive way. This research contributes to the mapping of evidence that clients act intentionally or unintentionally in relation to the effective increase of the resilience of their suppliers and, consequently, of their entire supply chain.
