Summary: This work investigates how the professionalization of management is articulated in strategizing practitioners of a small family business, located in the state of Espírito Santo. It was used analysis models based in an interpretative approach for understanding factors involving the family business, avoiding analysis models based in a mere summary of reality. This study is based on the theory of Strategy and Social Practice (JARZABKWOSKI, 2005; JARZABKWOSKI, SPEE, 2009; WHITTINGTON, 2006), which assumes that the strategy is constructed by social actors, so it need to investigate “how” they act and “why” they act and which practices they use for the investigation of professional management. This is a qualitative research, with application of single case study (YIN, 2005). Data collection was performed using the methodological triangulation (JICK, 1979) and it combines semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation made in an unsystematic way and documentary research. Data analysis was done through content analysis (Bardin, 2004). Similarly to Dekker et al. (2015), it was noted that the professionalization of management has occurred with the involvement of a non-family member allied with the development of other dimensions of professionalization, however this case differs from Dekker as it was noted the influence of extraorganizational field (WHITTINGTON, 2006) under the daughter of the founder couple, whom becomes professional and developed strategies for the professionalization of the family business. The professionalization involves the professionalization of business family (FANG ET AL., 2012), the involvement of nonfamily member in the management and the company's involvement in other aspects of professionalization, In addition of these three factors, it is necessary to assign the professionalization of family entrepreneur as a moderator factor of professionalization of management process.
