Summary: The Management of Brazilian Public Schools is a phenomenon with peculiar characteristics as it involves multiple actors of the school community - director, teachers, other employees, parents, students and community leader. As a result, the school director is faced with many interests and unexpected situations in everyday life, so that their work takes strong emergent" and relational character. It is essential, however, to study school management under a viewpoint that favors not only the school principal, but the organizational practices that take place among the material arrangements of the school. Accordingly, the aim of this work is to understand how is organized, through daily practices, management in a public elementary school. For this, it were used the shadowing and documents as data collection technique. The field work was carried out from February to May 2015, a period when it was made the shadowing of a school director in their daily activities and the collection of documents that helped on the characterization of the school context. For data analysis, it was used the content analysis. The results point to a management strongly influenced by different interests and objectives of the segments of the school community. Also, they highlight the emergent and dynamic nature of "being a school principal" because of unexpected circumstances that arise in the organizational day-by-day. More than this, point to the school management as a phenomenon that happens from fragments of practices that take place in different materials arrangements that help constitute the school.
