Summary: The changes in the social and professional context occurred in the world in the last decades of the twentieth century, allied to the large technological increase, caused reactions in brazilian society and culminated in attempts to alter the bureaucratic logic, from administrative reforms, which is strongly rooted in the institutions of the public sector. These changes have caused modifications in the path of professional public servants, with consequences for their professional identification and in the form of implementation of the tasks delegated to them. The professional activity of the servers from Secretaria da Receita Federal called Auditores Fiscais da Receita Federal do Brasil has undergone changes stemming from this new context, creating a new form of professional practice. The professional identity of AFRFB will be investigated in order to characterize the possible identity of its own auditors, that strengthens their sense of belonging to a State typical career, apart from a common identity for all public servants, or their professional identity prior to entry into the Receita Federal. The analysis of speeches of auditors provided the knowledge of some of the aspirations of the class and the ambiguities that lead to a greater identification with the professional public service than with the career of AFRFB itself. The work opens up new prospects for research, with the wording of questions that allow the deepening of the study of professional identity of AFRFB and its implications in the processes of public management.
