“WE ARE A FAMILY”: THE EXPERIENCES OF
BASIC EDUCATION TEACHERS IN THE LIGHT OF THE PSYCHODYNAMICS OF WORK

Summary: In the light of the Psychodinamics of Work, this study aims to analyze the cooperation in face of impasses and the constraints of the organization of teaching work in the municipal public schools of Sobral, a city in the countryside of the state of Ceará. Important concepts of Psychodynamics of work and aspects of managerialism were discussed in order to understand the organization of teaching work in Sobral City public schools and the life processes that emanate from the activity, as well as the goal-based management that involves it. The research, based on the qualitative approach, was based in the dejouriana Pshycodinamic, with data produced through daily routine observations in loco and 10 interviews with fifth grade and middle school teachers from Senador Carlos Jereissati e Dr. Antônio Custódio de Azevedo middle schools, respectively. Data were analised and based on the content analysis according Bardin (2016), emerging the following categories afterwards: 1) “I think the goals are a bit absurd, but we cannot change: the organization of teaching work; 2) “We are a family”: cooperation from the perspective of teachers; 3) “We are a very united team”: recognition at work, and 4) between pleasure and suffering: being a teacher of basic education. It was found that the organization of the teaching work is crossed by managerial ideology and marked by the management by goals with repercussions in the teachers’ mental health of the municipal public-school system. However, it was possible to identify signs of cooperation in the colletive work, interpreted as subjective mobilization, inseparable of the living together, and strong bonds based on trust in the work relationships. It was also possible to identify the importance of acknowledgment and its relation to the formation of identifying processes in the school context. Finally, it is believed that the realization of this study allowed the knowledge of the teaching work organization at public schools in Sobral, knowing the real work endured by the teachers in the school context, allowing a bigger exploration of the concept of cooperation in the light of the Psychodynamics of work, a concept that is rarely debated and investigated in surveys based on the dejouriana Psychodynamics.
