Summary: The purpose of this study is to understand the process of production of the space of an elitist nightclub of Vitória - ES from the social representations of the border agents that work in the organization. To reach this goal, I sought input in the theory of social representations and studies of organizational spaces. The theory of social representations can contribute to the understanding of a social phenomenon through the view of the subjects studied, seeking in their speeches to understand how they understand something or something. Space studies can also contribute to the
understanding of a social phenomenon seeking to understand how spaces can be socially used, including as a demonstration of power. To achieve these objectives, we used the shadowing technique and interviews. The chosen venue was an elite nightclub and I called the border agents the employees who deal directly with the entry and control of the clients in the organization: event promoters, hostesses and security guards. Social representations emerged from three categories of analysis: nightclub spaces, the roles of border agents and clients. The obtained results demonstrate that the representations of the border agents for the production of the spaces are materialized in the bodies of the employees. These bodies are symbolic artifacts that represent beauty and strength through the representations circulating in society that produce the spaces of the nightclub. The symbolism of the venue and the representations about the nightclub research selects the customers previously, which already segregates the customers who frequent this house. The bodies of the employees materialize the representations of the border agents that circulate in the organization, being symbolic to produce the spaces of the nightclub. Therefore, the social representations of the border agents affect their bodies in their appearance, their dress and their behaviors, producing tolerance and suffering when dealing with clients.
