Summary: This study seeks to understand how the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
actions of a pulp company can contribute to the emergence of social business (NS)
in the form of a food production cooperative in the Municipality of Açucena - MG. For
this research, the theoretical assumption is that through the practice of corporate
social responsibility, it is possible to go beyond philanthropic donations and promote
businesses that are sustainable for the community. In this conception, new forms of
organization can emerge in the third sector in order to eradicate poverty and maintain
the sustainability of poor communities through the generation of jobs and income. A
predominantly qualitative research was carried out through a single case study, using
data collection techniques: semi-structured interview, documentary research and
survey application as confirmation and validation of the data. The research subjects
were two collaborators of the company CENIBRA, four employees of the Institute, a
representative of the City Hall of Açucena and twelve cooperative members of Sabor
Solidário. The data were analyzed in the light of the analysis of content with
categories defined a posteriori. The data show that CSR practiced by CENIBRA
considers the tripod of sustainability: economic, social and environmental, which
allows the company to adopt actions that foster sustainable development for the
communities. The adoption of this practice allowed the company to collaborate for the
emergence of the Cooperativa Sabor Solidário in the Municipality of Açucena - MG,
which is considered a sustainable enterprise capable of collaborating to reduce
poverty. The cooperative allows the employability of its members and the obtaining of
income for their livelihood, in addition to reducing social vulnerability. In addition, the
research revealed that the cooperative can be considered a NS, based on the seven
principles of Muhammad Yunus. This research sought to contribute with the
theoretical-empirical field of CSR and NS approaches, both with a perspective
capable of promoting work and income in a sustainable way for the needy population.
