Summary: This study had its goal set on the understanding of how the consumption is experienced in the solidarity community of Jaburu, through the representations of local inhabitants as consumers. Therefore, the author has developed interpretations off the narrated representations. In the intent of completing this task, an exploratory investigation was developed to support an overlook of the chosen locus from an initial insertion on the field in order to make possible an identification of relevant questions to the local consumers. In this stage, open interviews with local market owners were applied as technique to unravel elements of local consumption patterns. In order to continue and complete this qualitative study, the author chose to triangulate the research through the data collection techniques of semi-structured interviews and non-participant observation, alongside with the content analysis technique. The apprehension of field data occurred through the months of July and October of 2015, composed by an initial exploratory stage and a second moment in which semi-structured interviews were used. The collected data were analyzed using content analysis, developed from emic categories, organized into three thematic categories. The results point towards an understanding of a complex social phenomena, made possible by the processes of “mirroring”, “approximation”, “separation” and “distancing”. The complexity is based on the cultural matrixes to which we are exposed, and are a part of, in which the social character of solidarity is a possibility for resistance. Thus, it would also make new understandings possible, both in theoretical and conceptual perspectives, for studies that seek the comprehension of social and organizational phenomena made present in solidarity communities, or even in non-capitalist enterprises.
