Summary: The present work has proposed to understand the approximations and distances of the management of the Association of Recyclable Materials Collectors of the Island of Vitória (AMARIV) in relation to bureaucratic organizational formats and those with alternative characteristics to hegemonic organizations. For that, I used the reflections of Brazilian critical theorists - Prestes Motta, Tragtenberg and Ramos - who repudiate the subjugations that bureaucratic organizations exert upon the workers. In order to reach the objective of this dissertation, I made use of the technique of participant observation and, to complement the data, the documental analysis. Thus, I have assembled the following categories AMARIV and its dependency relationships; "If it is not written, it is not done": bureaucratic organizational aspects; And "Beyond the prescribed: indication of an alternative organization". Based on this, I understood that, in the current way of production, it is not possible to constitute alternative organizations without bureaucratic characteristics. I realized that in AMARIV there was a mix of characteristics, and the bureaucratic ones prevailed.
