Summary: Social entrepreneurship emerges in the fields of Management and Economics as a recent practice to find alternatives, usually by means of innovative possibilities, that can produce social, economic and environmental changes, in order to minimize impacts and bottlenecks experienced by disadvantaged populations or groups. The limited number of academic and analytical publications related to the theme was one of the motivators to produce this qualitative research, conducted in Morro do Jaburu, Vitória (ES), between 2011 and 2012. The main objective of the study was to investigate whether social entrepreneurship, practiced within Morro do Jaburu, has culminated in one or more variants that comprise a process of local development in the region. The theory used to address the topic of social entrepreneurship was based in Elkington and Hartigan studies, among others. And the context related to local development was built, mainly, on top of the DLIS methodology, brought by Augusto de Franco. Besides the documentary research and field observation, a semi-structured script was used to 15 respondents. The methodological procedures utilized in this theoretical-empirical study were guided by Bardin‟s content analysis. The work concluded that social entrepreneurship actions, practiced in that area, in fact, result in the catalyzing process of local development, not only in the analyzed community, but also within the “Território do BEM”, WHERE Morro do Jaburu is located.
