Summary: The present dissertation deals with the different patterns of tradition as far as modernity is concerned in Venda Nova do Imigrante, a town in the mountains of Espírito Santo that has thriven after the Italian immigrants arrived there in the end of the 19 th century. A range of varied analyses - documental and indicative analyses, interviews and participatory observation - shows how the Italian immigrants traditions remain, in their different ways and meanings, rearranged and renewed at present as well as the role of the subjects in this social construction. Its guideline is one of the major cultural manifestations in town the Polenta Festival and the life story of its founding father Father Cleto Caliman in order to grasp how such tradition or traditions are made over coming out as a life style nowadays trough the local logic of innovating though preserving .
